Sadhana for the week:

True sadhana (spiritual practice) consists in the technique of merging the vaak (faculty of speech) in the mind, the mind in the intellect, and finally the intellect in the Atma. Forgetting this sacred and royal road available to man, it is sad that he chooses to indulge in sensual pleasures, which ultimately drown him in deep sorrow. No one tries to find out what the ultimate source of animation for the insentient senses is, nor does one seek to know who the real enjoyer is of all the pleasures derived through the senses.  Is it the body or the senses or the Atma that experiences the pleasures of eating delicious food or seeing a beautiful sight, or smelling a fragrant object? It is not the body, much less the sense organs. The real experiencer in all these cases is the Atma, which is the causeless cause of all that exists and which fosters, sustains, presides, and rules over all the things in the universe. Atma is the basis for the manifested world and the original source of motivation for the internal world. Only when we recognize the cardinal role of the Atma as the root cause of everything will the deceptive and transient sense organs cease to have dominance over us. - Baba

Chili recipe:

------------------------------------------------------------------

Spaghetti recipe

Ingredients

v  Spaghetti (dry, 2lbs)

v  Salt (to taste)

v  Diced zuchinni (2)

v  Dice yellow squash (2)

v  Chopped onion (1/2)

v  Colored peppers (1, optional)

v  Prego/Ragu Sauce (2 bottles)

Note: These are some general guidelines for cooking spaghetti. Do check with the instructions on the pasta packet as each of them may require different cooking times

 ·         Add 8 quarts of water, 1-2 tsps of salt and a teaspoon of olive or vegetable oil into a large stock pot

·         Bring the water to boil

·         Add 2lbs of dry spaghetti pasta into the boiling water. Note: Don’t break the pasta; it will soften up within 30 seconds and fit into the pot.

·         Stir the pasta. As the pasta starts to cook, stir it well with the tongs so the noodles don’t stick to each other (or the pot).

·         Test the pasta by tasting it (Follow the cooking time on the package, but always taste pasta before draining to make sure the texture is right. Pasta cooked properly should be al dente—a little chewy.

·         Drain the cooked pasta in a colander and run noodles under cold water to stop the cooking. Leave it with some cold water to prevent it from sticking and set aside

·         Heat quarter cup olive oil

·         Add 2 tsps of cumin seeds and let it crackle

·         Add the vegetables and saute’ them till they are cooked

·         Add cooked spaghetti, the sauce and salt (to taste).

·         Mix well and bring everything to a simmer

·    Turn-off heat and is ready to serve.

Divine Inspirations

In the Geetha Lord Krishna says, “Arjuna! People give up revering and seeking Me, their very own Self. How foolish of them! They are not anxious to reach Me; but pursue lesser attainments that are untrue and transitory. The reason for this strange behaviour is the desire for quick results. People seek only that which is available here and now; that which is in a concrete form and is capable of being grasped by their senses; they are carried away by the attraction of flimsy pleasures. People also do not generally have the needed patience. They attach greater importance to the gross body, (sthula sarira). The achievement of Jnana (wisdom) is the true inner victory; it is won after long and arduous struggle. The few who are spiritually minded yearn for the Divine. Such wise people are indeed blessed. Look upon every act as but the execution of His order and as leading to His grace.”  -  BABA
